The Flat Earth Conspiracy And Why It Might Not Be Much Of A Conspiracy At All

We live in an age of conspiracy theorists, in fact there’s a new conspiracy popping up everyday. When something gets branded as a conspiracy, the majority of us are happy to pass it off as a load of rubbish without even a second thought. However not everyone is so quick to pass conspiracies off as total nonsense.

In the past couple of years the flat Earth conspiracy has made a comeback and become one of the most talked about conspiracy theories on the web. In fact a large number of people are convinced the "globe" Earth model is a complete lie and that there's more evidence to suggest that Earth is flat. Here are a few of the key points flat Earth believers make regarding these claims.

There are no real official NASA photos of Earth from space at a distance

What? Yes there is I’ve seen them in books and on the internet. Well you are correct, there are official photos released by NASA of Earth at a distance in space. However, it’s since been pointed out that these images are in fact CGI artwork.

At first you might be quick to throw this out as another crazy conspiracy, but before you do take a look at the evidence the “flat earther's” are keen to point out. First of all, we are not talking about high altitude here, we are talking about being far enough away from the planet to see Earth in her full spherical glory.

The official photos released by NASA over the years are far from consistent. Not only has the landmass of certain continents changed shape and colors, there are no satellites surrounding the planet at all. The question is, why would there be no real pictures of Earth released by NASA from space?

NASA Fake Earth

Earth is not moving through space, at all ...

Come on now ... This is getting silly I hear you say? Well consider this... The stars we see in the sky at night have been in the same position for thousands and thousands of years. This can be expected as our human lifespans are so small that we wouldn't see much change in our lifetimes.

The Earth orbits the Sun which itself is orbiting the Milky Way galaxy at an incredible speed. Officially the Sun takes 230 million years to complete one orbit of the Milky Way galaxy which explains why we see little movement with the stars in our lifetime. However, the distances between each of the stars we see in the night's sky have not shifted at all for thousands and thousands of years, possibly longer. Basically the distance we see between the stars alignment with themselves hasn’t changed which is slightly odd as Earth should be on a different orbit and not synchronized with all the other stars.

The Northern Polaris star is fixed directly above Earth’s Northern pole axis, it's not dead center as it has its own little wobble and cuts out a mini circle orbit in the night sky. For the Northern star to be consistently fixed above Earth’s North pole would mean that the Northern star is on a similar orbit around the galaxy to Earth, or better put synchronized. This of course doesn't make much sense considering the Northern star is supposedly 433 light years away ...

Copernicus came up with his best guess as to what’s really going on with his heliocentric solar system. This basically means everything we see in the sky at night is spinning around the Earth. Satellites (or ground equipment) recently took pictures of the universe’s background radiation, they came to the conclusion that the Earth is in the center of the universe and not even spinning let alone moving through space. Naturally although this theory was once explained by Copernicus and even now shown to hold some truth by recent tests and data, it’s quickly been passed off as rubbish by a majority of the scientific community.

So which theory is correct? There seems to be unanswered logical questions regarding our current model ... Combine that with the first question on why we have no real pictures of Earth and we can begin to ask not "Why is there no real pictures of Earth?" but more "What's being hidden from us about Earth?"

It's also worth mentioning that there are no real pictures of satellites in space either, they are all illustrations and CGI ... Odd right?

Gravity doesn't make much sense ...

First of all gravity is a theory, a theory that was altered twice by Einstein with some believing it to a complete hoax made to fit and explain a globe Earth model. But what makes people think it's a hoax? Well the best example given by flat Earth conspiracy theorists is this ...

Gravity is powerful enough to hold in the Earth's vast oceans, keep the Moon in a perfect orbit around our planet, but a butterfly can cut through it like a knife through butter… When you hear it put like that it certainly makes you think there's something inconsistent going on here with gravity. Surely we should all be squashed to the pavement?! Interesting ...

Construction doesn't allow for the Earth's curvature ...

The Earth is a globe and as such there is curvature that needs to be taken into account when building bridges, canals, roads etc ... However it appears that curvature is not taken into account at all by engineers or surveyors. Surveyor, Mr. T. Westwood, wrote into the January, 1896 "Earth Review" magazine stating that:

"In leveling, I work from Ordnance marks, or canal levels, to get the height above sea level. The puzzle to me used to be, that over several miles each level was and is treated throughout its whole length as the same level from end to end; not the least allowance being made for curvature. One of the civil engineers in this district, after some amount of argument on each side as to the reason why no allowance for curvature was made, said he did not believe anybody would know the shape of the earth in this life."

Engineer, W. Winckler, wrote into the Earth Review October 1893 regarding the Earth’s supposed curvature, stating

"As an engineer of many years standing, I saw that this absurd allowance is only permitted in school books. No engineer would dream of allowing anything of the kind. I have projected many miles of railways and many more of canals and the allowance has not even been thought of, much less allowed for. This allowance for curvature means this - that it is 8” for the first mile of a canal, and increasing at the ratio by the square of the distance in miles; thus a small navigable canal for boats, say 30 miles long, will have, by the above rule an allowance for curvature of 600 feet. Think of that and then please credit engineers as not being quite such fools. Nothing of the sort is allowed. We no more think of allowing 600 feet for a line of 30 miles of railway or canal, than of wasting our time trying to square the circle."

The term 'Sea Level'

The term "sea level" is used everyday but have you ever stopped to consider what that actually means? The term is given for good reason ... The sea is level …

According to flat Earth believers the planet’s oceans simply do not curve around a sphere, the same way if you bought a hypothetical curved bath the tap water wouldn't follow the curve ... Kind of obvious when you think about it right? Or is it? Your brain should be freaking out about now ...

The Ice Wall in Game Of Thrones is reality ...?!

People often say real truths are shown to us in Hollywood movies on the big screen. Of course the Truman Show starring Jim Carrey was all about how the Earth was flat with poor Truman none the wiser. Many flat Earther's believe the Ice Wall in Game Of Thrones is a direct reference to the real Ice Wall that surrounds the flat Earth.

If you are not sure what the flat Earth model is supposed to look like, then it’s widely believed by some that the UN flag is an official map of the flat Earth hidden in plain site...

The ice wall is around the circumference of the flat disc shaped Earth, which is why the South pole might be off-limits to the public and heavily guarded by the military ... It's interesting that we are not allowed to freely explore the south pole, which is the real issue here and not Game Of Thrones ...

Whether you believe the Earth is flat or a globe one thing's for sure, there is evidence that both supports and contradicts each model or theory. Conspiracy is everywhere, and now that we live in the age of information where access to historic information has never been so easily obtained, we can expect to see more and more mind bending theories in the future.
