Rick Gibson is an artist who’s a little bit different from the 'norm' to say the least. Gibson swapped his paintbrush for something more disturbing, the consumption of human flesh.
Back in 1988, Gibson had a strange and disturbing idea involving one of his friend's tonsils. Gibson paid cash for his friend's tonsils before taking them to a busy street in London where he controversially proceeded to eat them while wearing a placard which said “Meet A Cannibal.”
Around a year after that, Gibson went a step further and took some human testicles he had bought to the Lewisham Clock Tower in South London. Once there he proceeded to slice the human testicles in front of a crowd before eating them.
Gibson found a loophole in the English law regarding cannibalism and because he purchased the human body parts there was nothing anyone could do.
Father Mario Cimmarrusti
In a period between the early 1960’s and late 1970s, Father Mario Cimmarrusti sexually abused more than 250 boys. Cimmarrusti was one of the most prolific sexual abusers in the Catholic clergy sex abuse scandals. Even though he confessed to every one of his sexual crimes against the boys, he never spent a single day behind bars.
According to some of his victims, other priests knew what Cimmarrusti was up to and had even walked in on him abusing some of the young boys without saying a word, they simply just walked out of the room and kept quiet. It wasn’t until the early 1990s that his victims began to come forward and report what Cimmarrusti had done to them. Cimmarrusti openly admitted to his crimes in every single case. Since the statute of limitations had passed, Cimmarrusti was allowed to walk free from his crimes and lived a quiet life until passing away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 82.
Sagawa committed one of the worst crimes ever, but thanks to a technicality, he managed to walk completely free.
In 1981, Sagawa lured on of his classmates to his apartment in Paris where he shot her in the throat. Sagawa then proceeded to carve off slices of her body and eat them before raping her lifeless body. Sagawa was caught carrying suitcases stuffed full with his victims dismembered body parts, which he tried to dispose of in a lake. After being arrested, Sagawa admitted to Police what he’d done, telling them, “I killed her to eat her flesh.”
Sagawa was extradited back home to Japan after the French courts found him insane and unfit to stand trial. Once Sagawa arrived back in Japan he managed to escape any form of punishment due to the French courts refusing to share their documents with Japanese authorities. The French courts believed the case was closed and therefore no need re-open it and share the documents they had on Sagawa. With nothing to use against him in court, the Japanese courts had to let him go free.
Disturbingly, Sagawa became a minor celebrity back in Japan and even wrote boastful books about his crime. In one interview Sagawa said, “There’s no doubt in my mind that I want to eat human flesh again, It’s delicious stuff.”
Probably one of the most twisted accounts of someone getting away free is the story of Carl Tanzler. Tanzler fell head over heals in love with one of his patients, Elena de Hoyos, just before she passed away. Tanzler paid for Elena’s funeral so he had access to her tomb, later smuggling her dead body home without anyone noticing.
Disturbingly, Tanzler then proceeded to go to work on his dead love’s corpse using wires, plaster and wax so he could prop her up around the house like a taxidermied animal. Things didn’t stop there, Tanzler replaced her decaying body parts when needed and slept with the corpse in his bed at night. He even made a makeshift vagina from a tube so he could have sex with her.
Seven years later he was caught dancing with Elena’s corpse in front of his window. By this time the statute of limitations had expired, and so he walked free from his disgusting necrophiliac crime.
